Model & Photo Contest
We're looking forward to another great contest at the 2014 NNGC.  The Contest Room will feature all of the categories that you are used to seeing at a NNGC, with the addition of the animation category that was introduced in Pasadena.  We are also adding another additional model category … the “square footer.”  For this category, an entry may be anything, yes….that’s anything…as long as it fits on a 12” x 12” (or less) base.  Those of us in the Kansas City area have had fun with this concept for a number of years.  It tends to bring out the true imagination and creativity that narrow gauge modelers especially seem to display.  Have fun with this!

We will award Best of Show plus 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place awards for the following model categories.
·         Rod Locomotive - a steam powered locomotive with side rods.
·         Geared Locomotive - a steam powered, gear driven locomotive, e.g. Shay, etc.
·         Motive Power/Internal Combustion - any motorized locomotive or
vehicle that runs on RR track.
·         Freight Car – multiple entries in this category will be judged separately
·         Caboose
·         Passenger Car
·         Maintenance-Of-Way
·         Favorite Train - a train of undetermined length, including at least one motive power unit
and something the power unit is pushing or pulling. The train may be displayed on a
          length of track without scenery.
·         Special Equipment – any item of RR related equipment not otherwise covered in
          other categories.
·         Structure - any free-standing unit in which all parts shown are an integral part of
the structure.  No scenery may be added around the structure.  All entries not adhering
to this requirement will be categorized as a diorama.
·         Diorama - a structure or collection of structures and rolling stock not necessarily related
          to one another, with scenery.
Modular - Any single piece of a modular or sectional layout system (First Place Only).
Youth Award – Any model entry built and entered by an Age 18 or Younger
          (First Place Only).
·         Animation – This category cuts includes any model in another category that includes
animation, special lighting, or sound as part of the model or diorama.
·         Square Footer – This is a new category for the 2014 NNGC.  An entry may be anything,
yes….that’s anything…as long as it fits on a 12” x 12” (or less) base.  No cantilevers
are allowed beyond the column extended up from the base and overall height is
          not limited.

In addition to the traditional categories, the following privately sponsored awards will be part of the contest.  These special awards are those that we are currently aware of...if we missed yours, we apologize and please let us know so that we can include them here.
